Model: Anastasia
Though transfixed by her piercing blue eyes and beaming smile, model Anastasia Kolganova’s beauty radiates from within. Marina first met the Russian-born single mom years ago on a shoot for Teen Vogue, and has been looking for an excuse to work with her ever since. At a time of such turmoil and suffering, Anastasia emits hope for the next generation, among them her own five year old daughter, Mia. In between snaps for our latest campaign, we caught up with Anastasia on how she got her start in the business, ways the industry (and her perspective) has changed, and what her hopes are for the future.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Anastasia and I have been modeling for the last 14 years, 9 of them in New York. My first international trip was to China when I was 14 years old, and I’ve been non-stop working since. I have 5 year old daughter, Mia, and we love to play dress up and dance around the house together.
When and why did you leave your country/town?
I was scouted at school in my hometown, soon afterwards I got my first international modeling contract.
If you could ask our readers to help with anything at home, how would you ask them to help?
Please be kind. We don’t get to choose where we are born, but we choose our actions.
How did you first begin your career in modeling?
My first modeling job was back in my hometown for a bridal magazine. I was 13 years old wearing wedding dresses 😂
How has the industry changed during your career?
It’s become more professional, more open to diversity and much safer.
How has your own perspective shifted over time?
I didn’t take my job as seriously when I was a teenager, but today it’s become my profession and full-time job. I even take my daughter to shoots sometimes and I am proud for her to see what I am doing for work.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned how to enjoy my job, and how to understand client’s ideas and expectations to do the absolute best that I can on set and how to work as a team.
Who is an inspiration to you and why?
My daughter. The freedom and enjoyment she has for life is the best example of how to live life with open heart and curious mind.
How do you stay level-headed in this career?
Modeling is a big part of my life, but not all of it. I’ve worked long enough to understand this business and my part in it.
What is your favorite part of yourself, physical or otherwise?
I love to enjoy life and live in the moment here and now. I also think I have super cute smile ;)
If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Happiness is a mindset. We choose who we are every day.
What are your hopes for the year to come?
I wish for peace in places that lost it.
