Meet Miss Larroudé, Romilly Newman

Meet Miss Larroudé, Romilly Newman

You may have first met Romilly Newman when she was on Chopped at just thirteen, but today Newman brings her unique yet discerning perspective across culinary, fashion, interior design, and travel into everything she does. We asked the chef to talk about how her singular style translates in and out of the kitchen.

IG Handle:

Where do you live?

Brooklyn Heights

Favorite Larroude shoe for Fall?

Hard to choose... but probably the Jennifer Fisher boot in Martini Green.

Favorite FW memory:

Going to fashion week when I was eleven in a tulle dress and crystal ballet flats...thought I was really doing something.

What excites you about Fall?

Sage and brown butter.

Favorite restaurant/dish in your city?

Too impossible to choose just one favorite. But, ordering the Bagna Cauda from Via Carota while sitting at the bar is pretty close to (my
version) of heaven.

IG Account(s) you follow for Inspo:

@weirdoldfood, @roseuniacke, @king.newyork, @agosmuni_ny, to name a few.

What inspires you?

The intricacies of the past.

How did you get your start?

I started with a food blog called “Little Girl in the Kitchen” when I was eleven. I went on to do the morning show circuit, get chopped from chopped,
and make absurd cooking videos wearing my mom’s high heels.

Piece of advice for your younger self / One thing you wish you knew when you were first starting out?

Pour yourself into your passion as much as possible and the rest will follow.
Don’t think about outcome.

What does a typical day at work look like?

What does a typical day at work look like? Everyday is very different. It can be running around the entire city sourcing all kinds of produce for a 200 person event, or it can be writing a soup recipe at my desk while blasting Lana del Rey.

What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your industry?

I think people often doubt my actual ability, but I like to prove them wrong.

What is one of your biggest successes so far?

Working with Martha Stewart was definitely a career (and life) defining moment. I owe so much of my career and what I do to Martha, and having her approval meant a lot.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Less anxious, hopefully!

What’s your go-to Spotify Playlist?

Witchy Songs.

What is your fashion uniform?

Flared pants, tallest heels, sweater or silk button down, and a really fun coat.
